Living Coasts – Torquay’s easy attraction
Living Coasts is a unique conservation attraction in the heart of Torquay. It’s easy to find, easy to get around and easy to enjoy.

Part of world-famous Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts features a range of fascinating coastal creatures from puffins and penguins to fur seals and wading birds. There are reconstructed beaches, cliff-faces and an estuary. A huge meshed aviary allows birds to fly free over the heads of visitors. Special acrylic tunnels give clear views of the birds and mammals underwater.

The African penguins are free range, which means you can meet these amazing birds face to face as you walk around. Then there are the macaroni penguins, with their fancy yellow plumes. In all there are nearly 100 penguins at Living Coasts.

Torquay’s coastal zoo has an enthusiastic and knowledgeable education team and puts on themed events and activities throughout the year.

An important part of the attraction of Living Coasts is the water-front cafe with its stunning views across the bay. Take it easy, enjoy a cup of coffee on the terrace or maybe lunch made with fresh local ingredients and the best view in South Devon.

When it comes to shopping, Living Coasts is the perfect place whether you are visiting or not. Tradewinds is a well-stocked shop with gifts and souvenirs for everyone.

Living Coasts is a compact site with gentle gradients, ideal for older visitors and families with small children, as well as those with mobility problems. As it’s a short-stay visit and centrally placed it can be combined with shopping at nearby Fleet Walk or a boat trip across Tor Bay.
