In just a few years everything has changed: our environment, our attitude to ageing and what we expect of our skin care products. And these changes have prompted the Clarins Research team, headed by Dr Lionel de Benetti, to define new priorities and ingredients for its global anti-ager. The first dual-phase intensive serum launched in 1985 as Double Serum, which since then has undergone four significant updates and today re-emerges much more effective as Generation 6.
What stays. More than ever before, the first objective of this serum is to stimulate the five biological functions which keep skin healthy and youthful: hydration, nutrition, oxygenation, protection and renewal. A global approach which re-activates every type of skin cell.

1.Restoring the skins protective barrier
To test the effectiveness of Generation 6 in restoring the skins hydrolipidic film, an in vitro study was carried out on a skin culture stripped of lipids by an organic solvent. After this process a green fluorescent marker was used to highlight filaggrin, a key component of the protective horny layer and a precursor of NMF, and it was found to be considerably weakened. The skin culture was then treated with Generation 6 and evaluated three hours later, clearly illustrating that the skin barrier had been restored.
2. Line-smoothing and firming
To test the effectiveness of Generation 6 at line-smoothing and firming skin, 35 women aged 40 to 55 used the product each evening for 4 weeks. The results recorded are the % improvement across all volunteers.
