Five Places to Visit and Things to Do in Hampshire
Hampshire is a county with many facets to its beauty. Tourists can visit coastal areas including Southampton with its cruise port and the naval city of Portsmouth, the scenic New Forest or the Hampshire Downs.

There is no shortage of places to visit in Hampshire and choosing just five is challenging. Here goes!

1 Winchester Cathedral

Winchester Cathedral is a truly magnificent building located at the heart of the historic city of Winchester. On a summer’s day enjoy a picnic in the Cathedral grounds and then experience the cool, peaceful grandeur of the interior of the Cathedral. Guided tours are available.

After visiting the Cathedral, turn left out of the main doors and walk round the building towards Pilgrims School and the renown Winchester College. From here it is a short stroll down to the river walks and along towards City Mill

On your way back along the Broadway to the High Street look out for King Alfred’s statue and the Guildhall.

2 Kings Theatre

This beautiful theatre is one of the best remaining examples of Edwardian playhouses in the UK. It is at the heart of the Southsea community on Albert Road. Since the theatre was bought by Portsmouth City Council in 2001 over half a million tickets have been sold. The theatre attracts big names and major productions but also provides a venue for community theatre. For further details click on Kings Theatre, Portsmouth.

3 Ice Skating

Ice hockey is an exhilarating sport and provides gripping entertainment for the spectators.

Alternatively, hire some skates and join in with one of the skating public sessions. A great family activity. Lessons can be booked.

Planet Ice is located on the leisure park in Basingstoke which has an amazing array of entertainment and activities. Combine your skating trip with a visit to Milestones – Hampshire’s Living History Museum, a meal at Little Frankie’s, a swim at the Aquadrome or ten pin bowling.

Breamore House was completed in 1583 just 5 years before the Spanish Armada. It houses fine art collections including a unique set of 14 Mexican ethnological paintings. A feature of the estate is the mediaeval turf mizmaze through which a Christian cross is cut. According to tradition, monks used to crawl in the maze on their knees as a penance.

5 The Hawk Conservancy

One of the most popular demonstrations at the Hawk Conservancy is the Valley of the Eagles which displays the flight of kites, eagles and vultures through the sky.

For a special treat, you can book “A Day With Birds of Prey” . This is the chance to see and learn more about birds of prey. A highlight of the day is being allocated a Harris Hawk from the team at the conservancy and flying that bird and having it land of your fist.

The conservancy includes Reg’s wild flower downland meadow, 15 acres of woodland gardens, dragon fly pond, education centre, nature trails and Duffy’s Coffee Shop.
