Hotels and Places to Stay in Edinburgh
As you would expect from the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh has a whole range of attractions, places of interest, art galleries and museums to attract visitors. Places of note include:
For visitors to the city there is a good choice of hotels and places to stay. Edinburgh offers the full spectrum of options from luxury hotels through to homely bed and breakfast or guest house accommodation.
The Sherwood Guest House in the Newington area of Edinburgh has quality accommodation at budget rates. All for the rooms have facilities for making coffee and tea and some have fridges and microwaves. A buffet style breakfast is available.
The central location of the Sherwood makes it an ideal base for exploring many of the tourist attractions within the city.
David (Scottish) and Yoke (Dutch) run the Ravensdown Guest House which is within easy reach of the Port of Leith. If you are planning to visit the Royal Yacht Britannia, this is a great place to stay. The guest house is about a 10 minute walk away from the Royal Botanic Gardens and there are plenty of pubs, restaurants and wine bars within easy reach.
The Ravensdown Guest House is located in a majestic Edwardian house built in the early 20th century. There are excellent views of the city skyline from the front of the house and the Firth of Fourth can be seen from the rear.
Kelly’s Guest House is a small guest house in Edinburgh about 1 mile from the city centre. It has 4 rooms, all on the ground floor. Three of the rooms are en-suite and there is a 2 roomed family suite which can accommodate up to 5 people.
The property has a large garden and a conservatory at the back of the house. All rooms have televisions, tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryers. Laundry facilities are available on request. Off street parking is provided.
There is a bus stop for the city centre conveniently located outside the front door of Kelly’s Guest House.
There are three Macdonald Hotels in the Edinburgh area of which two are centrally located. The first is The Macdonald Roxburghe Hotel which caters both for the needs of business customers and tourists. There are conference facilities including the George Suite which can be used for both functions and conferences. There is also the Vital Health Fitness and Beauty Spa.
The hotel is both elegant and luxurious and enjoys a reputation for comfortable accommodation.
Macdonald Holyrood Hotel is also in the city centre and within a few minutes walk of Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street and the Royal Mile. The luxury rooms all offer cable TV, bathrobe and slippers and 24 hour room service. For the business traveller or the executive who needs to keep in touch whilst on vacation, there is a data port and a work space in each room.
The Macdonald Houston House is on the outskirts of Edinburgh around 15 miles to the west of the city centre. It can provide a particularly convenient base for visitors who also want to visit Glasgow which is around 35 miles further west. This hotel is set within 20 acres of mature woodlands in a 16th century tower house and steading. Most rooms have views out to the Ecclesmachan Hills or across the hotel’s gardens.
