Description
Berkeley Castle has survived nine centuries since the Berkeley family started living there in 1117. The estate consists of 6000 acres and includes one of the best examples of a mediaeval deer park in the Country.
The castle has many areas to explore including the Picture Galley, displaying mostly Dutch paintings and the Great Hall – a magnificent centrepiece of the castle where King and Queens throughout the centuries have been wined and dined. See also the cell where Edward II was brutally murdered in 1327.
The Castle Gardens specialise in scent, with roses being a particular delight in June. Also in the grounds there is a Butterfly House with hundreds of butterflies flying freely in an indoor garden.
